Nutrition Team
Here at PEA we have a Nutrition Team that consists of three Registered
Dietitians who are also Certified Diabetes Educators.
They provide a wide range of nutrition counseling services.
Nutrition Counseling for Newly Diagnosed Patients with Diabetes:
All newly diagnosed children with diabetes and their families will
meet with the dietitian to review the meal plan given at the hospital.
This is also a time to ask questions, review food logs, make adjustments
in the meal plan and expand on the nutrition education that was given
at the hospital.
Yearly Dietitian Visits for Children with Diabetes:
Once a year, the physician will refer families to see the dietitian.
At this visit a diet history will be taken and several questions will
be asked to help the dietitian assess how things are going. They will
review Carbohydrate Counting skills, label reading, portion control
and address any individual weight issues. Patients may request to see
the dietitian more frequently if needed.
Individualized Nutrition Counseling:
Our dietitians counsel patients
on a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, vitamin deficiencies,
weight loss, growth, exercise regimens, sodium and cholesterol restrictions
and diabetes prevention.
If you would like to speak with a dietitian prior to your visit please call 404-255-0015 ext 143 or 115
