Diabetes Center
Here at PEA we have a Diabetes Care Team that consists of five Certified Diabetes Educators, which include a Registered Nurse, Registered Dietitians and Physician Assistant. They provide diabetes education for recent as well as previously diagnosed diabetics. Here at PEA we believe that knowledge is power and that education can make living with diabetes better.
Diabetes Education for Newly Diagnosed Patients with Diabetes:
All newly diagnosed children with diabetes and their families will
meet with a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian to review basic
diabetes education. At this visit, it is a great time for the family
to get to know the educator and the educator to get to know the family
and most importantly the child or adolescent. At the visit many topics
are addressed and are not limited to insulin dosing, blood sugar monitoring,
reviewing of blood sugar logs, how exercise affects blood sugars, how
to use a insulin pen, and sick day management.
Throughout the Year Visits with the Diabetes Educators:
Throughout the year the physician will refer families to see the
Certified Diabetes Educator for many reasons such as and are not limited
to reviewing basic diabetes management, training of an insulin pump
or sensor.
If you need to speak with a Certified Diabetes Educator prior to your visit please call 404-255-0015 ext 114, 115, 132 or 143.
